Important Reminders

Before each H5P activity added to the Column Content in the interactive book activity, include a Text Content container with a correctly structured heading that describes the activity that follows.  Content authors should review the specific usability level and content authoring requirements of an H5P activity before including that type of H5P activity in the interactive book activity.

The activity may be more usable if:

  • H5P activities added to the interactive book activity support including a heading at the beginning of each H5P activity
  • For Popup content, begin the content with a correctly structured heading level 2
  • Best practices for content authoring are used for each H5P activity added to the interactive book activity, such as ensuring good color contrast and including alt-text descriptions for meaningful images.

Visible Indication of Focus

The activity buttons and interactive elements have a visible indication of focus.

Color Contrast

The quality of the color contrast depends on the type of H5P activity added to the interactive book activity.  Users who require a visible indication of focus with more contrast may use assistive technology.  The color contrast of meaningful visual elements and text with backgrounds must be ensured manually by the content author.

Keyboard Usability

The keyboard usability depends on the type of H5P activity added to the interactive book activity.  When the navigation menu is expanded, H5P does not move the keyboard focus to the navigation menu.  When Popup content is open, H5P does not keep the keyboard focus inside the Popup content.

No Keyboard Traps

There are no keyboard traps.

Magnification

When the interactive book activities is magnified up to 200% or up to 400% using browser settings, not all content is magnified and some content is obscured.  The support of magnification of content will depend on the H5P activities added to the interactive book activity.

An alternative version of the activity should be included that supports magnification up to 200% and up to 400% without requiring horizontal scrolling to view content and interact with content.

Usability with Screen Reading Software

The activity is usable with screen reading software.  H5P incorrectly requires alt-text for decorative images.  In Popup content, H5P creates visual headings from the optional Header text that are not headings that screen reading software can recognize.  H5P does not include accessible labels for the Previous and Next buttons.  When the navigation menu is expanded, H5P does not move the keyboard focus to the navigation menu.  In the navigation menu, H5P does not provide users of screen reading software an option to expand the content without moving to the content.  When the navigation menu is collapsed, H5P does not hide the contents of the navigation menu from screen reading software.  H5P creates multiple headings level 1 on each page of the interactive book activity.  When Popup content is open, H5P does not keep the keyboard focus inside the Popup content.  H5P does not provide an option for content authors to correctly structure tables with column and row headers.  The usability of the interactive book activity with screen reading software will depend on the usability of H5P activities added to the interactive book activity.
