The following information is based on the reading from Chapter 8 of Management of the Enterprise. Human Resources Management (HRM) deals with \u201cgeneration of revenue through the use of people\u2019s skills and abilities\u201d. Specifically, it \u201cis the process of *employing* people, training them, *compensating* them, developing policies relating to them, and developing strategies to *retain* them.\u201d <\/p>\n\n

While the HRM department is likely responsible for the organization\u2019s overall HR strategy, individual managers will all play a role in supporting HR functions. For example, with regards to the staffing function of HR, a manager might have input into the development of a *staffing plan*, recruiting new staff, and providing training.<\/p>\n\n

HR staff typically develop the organization\u2019s policies about such things as *vacations*, dress codes, and acceptable and safe use of the organization\u2019s technologies, including *accessing the internet*. <\/p>\n\n

HR administers employee benefit programs (*dental care*, eye care, etc.), pensions, bonuses and sick leave. HR stays informed about *legislation* that impacts employees, including mandatory training regarding legislation like *AODA*, WMHIS, and sexual violence and harassment. HR may also make workplace policies that reflect requirements in laws like the *Employment* Standards Act and the Occupational *Health* and Safety Act. <\/p>\n\n

HR aims to keep employees happy, engaged, motivated, and capable of performing their jobs. They may do this through encouraging lifelong learning through reimbursement of *tuition* and other training costs, hosting *social* events and activities, and recognizing staff milestones through employee *appreciation* awards.<\/p>\n"],"submitAnswer":"Submit"}
