Instructor Overview

Pass the Pig is a fun and simple dice game, but with a unique twist: instead of traditional dice, players use small, rubber pigs. In Pass the Pig, each position in which the pigs land corresponds to a certain number of points. For example, if both pigs land on their sides, one way earns a certain score, while another way earns a different score. There are also special positions like "leaning jowler," "snouter," and so on, each with its own point value. Honestly, half the fun is say the position names.

Players take turns rolling the pigs and accumulating points. After each roll, a player can decide to either stop and bank the points accumulated in that turn or risk them by rolling again. However, if the pigs land in a certain way (like the dreaded "Pig Out"), the player can lose all the points accumulated in that turn.

Note: My friend and game buddy John Kern wrote an article about Pass the Pig for the Journal of Statistics Education, if you're interested. You can see the tables of data he used, if you need a hint at the question below.
