Slide 1

Over 3.2 million Americans have been diagnosed with schizophrenia. People with schizophrenia may hear voices other people don't hear. They may believe other people are reading their minds, controlling their thoughts, or plotting to harm them. This can terrify people with the illness, and make them withdrawn and/or extremely agitated. Health care professionals must use appropriate therapeutic communication to de-escalate patients experiencing these acute symptoms.
